The senator of Italia Viva and former secretary of the union of via Po: "If Meloni thinks she can put pressure on the Cisl in this way, she is deluding herself. The left should speak with all the acronyms, not just the Cgil"
On the same topic:
“Luigi Sbarra is a person I have known for many years and with whom I have worked together a lot. I wish him all the best in his job ”. According to Senator Anna Maria Furlan , the new undersecretary for the South of the Meloni government “has the skills to deal with the South. But the government he will be part of in the South has invested almost nothing”. Furlan and Sbarra met at the Cisl. And they succeeded each other as secretaries of the group on Via Po, now led by Daniela Fumarola. She first ran for the Democratic Party and then came out in controversy with the Democratic Party line on labor issues and joined Italia Viva. After leaving the Cisl secretariat, he joined the sub-government team on Thursday. “I remain firmly aligned on the opposition benches”, Furlan began speaking to Il Foglio. "I am at the opposite end of the spectrum from an executive that wants to keep mothers with children between 0 and 1 years old in prison. That punishes the complaints of those who have perhaps just lost a job. Precisely in the South, from an employment point of view, policies are proving inadequate. And I believe that even with regard to the use of PNRR funds, the South is completely forgotten by the government that has not managed to manage the funds provided to offer every child born in the South an adequate offer of nursery schools. It is no coincidence that thousands of young people abandon those lands without any kind of growth prospects. That is why I believe that Sbarra will have a lot to do".
It has been written that Sbarra's appointment will create a progressive, perhaps unbridgeable, gap between the left and an important union like the CISL. Which seems to have been abandoned to the right, even more so after a referendum campaign that gave the image of a PD crushed by the CGIL. "I think that the dialogue should continue with all the acronyms, not only the CGIL but also the CISL and UIL, which are the most representative unions in the country ," Furlan then warns. Who a couple of months ago announced his decision to leave the group of PD senators and join Italia Viva because he disagreed with some positions expressed by the party on the issue of work, starting with the law on worker participation in company profits. “My choice was dictated by the awareness that in this party, in Italia Viva, with Matteo Renzi, there is a culture and a reformist approach that I share. And I believe that for the future of the center-left it is increasingly important to focus on strengthening this moderate and reformist component. Without which we cannot think of sending this right-wing government home,” explains Furlan. “We have also seen it in the territories, starting from my Genoa: when we are able to go all together we win. The country is losing industrial production points every month. Our companies are collapsing due to energy costs. Working is no longer enough to guarantee non-poverty. Every year almost 200 thousand young Italians go abroad. And with a public health system so defunded by the government, people give up on getting treatment. The center-left parties must offer a real and serious alternative to Italians. And that is why with Matteo Renzi and Italia Viva we want to give a home to all the reformists of the center-left.”
The fact is that another of the readings after Sbarra's nomination is that the Cisl has been exploited by the right in recent years. Almost as if Meloni wanted to use a moderate figure as a commercial to give the idea of an expansion of the ruling class. "And instead I believe that no one, neither on the right nor on the left nor in the center, can put a political hat on that union organization that I have known for over 40 years," Furlan replies. " The individual paths and stories of those who choose to personally commit to a political project are one thing. The positioning of the Cisl is another, which will always remain independent of the parties, and only responds to its members. If Meloni believes she is doing these operations to be able to influence the work carried out by the union, I feel sorry for her but she is deluding herself ."
